Although JJ Yates can trace its history back to 1866, its transition to become one of the North West’s premier independent insurance brokerages began in 1968, when the company was purchased by Tony Slater.
Tony grew the company from its roots of providing high quality advice and service to a variety of businesses within Greater Manchester to becoming the in-house broker to the conglomerate Hillsdown Holdings plc (peak turnover £3.5bn). This insurance programme provided the optimum risk transfer arrangements for not only its UK business arrangements, but also those in Europe, USA and Canada.
Following the acquisition of Hillsdown by US Venture Capitalists, and the subsequent restructuring of its business’s, JJ Yates retained the vast majority of its former client base, due to the strong relationships that had been formed with the individual companies within the conglomerate, based on trust, understanding and reliability.
This culture is embedded throughout our company and applies to all our relationships with each of our clients, regardless of size or location. The culture fit was of paramount importance in the sale of the business to D Roberts & Partners in August 2021. They have both enabled and encouraged this to continue as their business model is to support the businesses they purchase to succeed and appointed Tracey Regan as the new Managing Director, who had previously worked with Tony Slater for 18 years.
